Hot Take: Sports Anime Need Mainstream Recognition

Sports anime: big enough for a niche but not big enough for the mainstream.

The amount of times that sports anime lives up to the hype, it's always been overshadowed by the mainstream anime that gets better marketing and more die-hard fans to last for years. 

Don't get me wrong. Sports anime does have their recognition in the spot light here and there; however, out of 10 anime fans, I would say about 7 of them would go for mainstream anime.

As someone that watches more sports anime than most genres, it surprises me that even the most popular anime series that has been going on for a long time hasn't got an inch in the spotlight.

Even series such as Captain Tsubasa back in the 1980s and Inazuma Eleven (best soccer anime in my opinion) that have recognition from world-class soccer players (or footballers) didn't scratch the surface of mainstream.
