Vibe Check #7 (February 2024)

Welcome to the 7th version of our Vibe Check, and our 2nd version of our Vibe Check for 2024. Where we talk about anything about anime, manga, Japanese culture, or anything on the top of our heads that happened in the month. Hope you get the chance to enjoy this relaxing blog post.

Vibe Check #1: Valentine's Anime

February is mainly the month of love and romance, and for people that have been single, it's basically an average month of anime and catching up on their favorite manga series. On the second week of February, I had COVID and had to quarantine for about 5 days. During my time, I had the chance to catch up on Demon Slayer and get started on My Happy Marriage. I had a great time to watch Demon Slayer and couldn't wait for the movie, but for My Happy Marriage; it wasn't really my cup of tea, but I need to finish the series to reach the goal of 50 anime series for the entire year.

Vibe Check #2: Hachimura Jersey

Although I am not a big fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, I am a huge fan of the Japanese basketball player Rui Hachimura. For people that don't really know about him, Rui Hachimura is a hafu (half Japanese) basketball player that is one of the best international basketball players in the league. From Toyama, Japan to the NBA is an amazing journey to look into because of the fact that not many Japanese people survive in the NBA for less than 5 years (the other is Yuta Watanabe from Yokohama, Japan).

Although seeing him perform up close and personal can be a borderline miracle (because courtside tickets for the Lakers is borderline too expensive that celebrities and rich influencers tends to buy without a hesitation), buying his jersey tends to be the best option to show some support from him.

Buying the jersey from Fanatics was kinda expensive ($65), but it was worth every penny; however, wearing a Los Angeles Lakers jersey with Rui Hachimura number in the back at Louisiana tends to be weird since it's something not many people would expect. The reason is obviously whenever someone wears a Lakers jersey, they tend to wear someone like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, etc.

However, I still love my Rui Hachimura jersey, and hopefully one day he gets to sign it (and not hear the rumors that he might get traded out of the Lakers...).

Vibe Check #3: Demon Slayer Movie

Not gonna lie about this, I just found out about the movie a couple of days ago to almost a week ago. I wasn't the ones that would wait for almost a couple of months before the movie premieres. Plus, it was one of the very few decent movies that are out at the time and it's an excuse to go to my nearest movie theater.

Before going to the movie theater, mostly I would need to find the right timing on when to go. Since going there at 9pm is the only option, I would have to eat up as much as I can and sleep as much as I can so I won't get tired and I won't spend a lot of money on snacks.

As I walked into my section of the movie theater that showcase Demon Slayer: To The Hashira movie, I was honestly surprised by how many empty seats they were. In the social media ads, they basically showcase tons of people cosplaying while watching the movie. In real life, there were literally about 4 to 5 people watching the first night.

Then again, it was a school night and most people were already knocked out sleep. So, most definitely there might had been tons of people that went in the afternoon. Overall, the movie was great and I had an amazing time watching it.

I've met someone that's from Florida giving me a recommended anime series of Classroom of the Elites to watch for the weekend. Putting that on my To Watch Immediately list.

That's all for this month's vibe check. Tune in later on next month on what's going on for anime, manga, Japanese culture, or anything in between!
